Job Summary:
The Harley-Davidson Museum Curator-Exhibitions participates in all facets of exhibit creation, from concept development and curation through production and installation. The responsibilities for exhibit development include participating in exhibit concept development for temporary exhibits and revisions/additions to long-term exhibits, conducting primary topic research, developing exhibit story lines, organizing exhibit themes, and coordinating with exhibit and graphic designers, researching artifacts, graphics, photos, and moving images, developing object and media lists, negotiating image and video rights, acquiring exhibit materials through loan, purchase, or donation, assuring that necessary exhibit- and collection-related documentation and tracking systems are in place and up to date, researching, writing and editing exhibit labels, visitor handouts and other exhibit interpretive materials. This position is also responsible for exhibit planning and implementation which includes contributing to long-range exhibit planning, assisting with the coordination of production and installation of exhibits and interfacing with outside exhibit fabrication and design development firms as needed.

Education Required:
Bachelors degree (MA preferred) in American Studies, history, museum studies, or related field. Background in transportation history, popular culture studies, social history, or history of technology preferred.

Experience Required:
3-5 years of related experience in a museum setting. Demonstrated experience developing storylines for major exhibitions. Extensive research, writing and copy editing experience. Project development experience through all exhibit development phases. Solid interpretive vision and proven ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide range of audiences through material culture. Excellent attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks and to work under pressure with multiple deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in team environment. Ability to think conceptually and visually, from the big-picture overview to the details. Familiarity with exhibit and graphic design process and fabrication techniques. Candidate must be highly organized, efficient, and flexible through all phases of projects and in working with all project team members. Proven capacity to take individual initiative and produce consistent results while working independently.
